Math in your everyday life.

Have you ever seen the big signs that say how much gas is at a gas station? When you're in the car, look at the different prices. You can see which numbers are greater or less than one another. This is a skill that you will use when you're older, especially when you are dealing with prices. You can compare the numbers with other gas stations and see which ones have the lower price. Practice your greater than or less than skills here: http://www.abcya.com/comparing_number_values_jr.htm .

It can be as simple as counting when you are moving your person in a board game, or dealing with money in Monopoly!

Reading is Everywhere!

Words are everywhere; on signs, at stores, on billboards, outside, etc. Have you ever seen your parents working on a crossword puzzle?
They are very common among adults. Crossword puzzles come in magazines or newspapers. Each number has a clue that corresponds (matches up) with a word. These activities build great vocabulary and help with spelling! You can try completing your own crossword puzzle right here: http://iteslj.org/cw/3/ck-dolch02.html

Group Reading

A great way to read is to do it with someone else. Sometimes, it can get lonely reading by yourself, so ask a family member to read with you. If you ask one of your parents, choose a more challenging book, so they can help you with some of the difficult words. This can help you learn bigger, complex words.

Practice Basic Words

It is very important to practice reading. If you practice reading, you'll get better and it will be easier for you. Reading doesn't always have to be boring; many games contain reading.
